T5 Building (Later named as Horizon Cruise Terminal)
A prestigious new build project to create a terminal building that was visually dramatic, and appropriate for deep-ocean cruise ships. The terminal building itself was designed to accommodate circa 75,000 passengers a year, and incorporated many eco-efficient technologies and construction techniques. Associated British Ports engaged Brymor Contractors Limited as their Main Contractor, who utilised various specialists as part of their Design & Build appointment, including REID steel.
This work was carried out during the COVID-19 period of 2020 – 2021.
Special Considerations include:
- Waterside location.
- The use of exposed curved structural steel to replicate a “wave effect” front elevation.
- The structural challenges of working with long-span glulam-beams.
- Cruise-ship link-bridges.
